What we make

Real dreads. Synthetic fiber. Total freedom.

Synthetic dreads have been around long enough to have real technique behind them. The good ones feel dense and tactile, hold their shape through daily life, and come out cleanly when you're done. Velveteen Dreads are made using a crochet hook and backcombing method. The same approach professional locticians use, applied to high-quality Kanekalon and heat-friendly fiber.

Because the dreads attach to your own hair (braided at the root, or looped over a plait), your natural hair stays untouched underneath. You can swap colors with the seasons, go dramatic for a festival and practical for Monday, or keep a set for a year and take it down without a single knot in your real hair.

Three ways to wear synthetic dreads

Start with a full transformation, add a few accents to your natural hair, or go double-ended for extra volume and quicker installs.

Double-Ended

Double-ended dreads

Fold one long dread over a braid and you get two for the install time. Faster to put in, excellent volume, great for people doing their own install.

Accents

Accent dreads and wraps

Three, five, or ten statement pieces mixed into your natural hair. Chunky, thin, ombre, tinsel-wrapped — accents are how you test the look before committing to a full set.

"Synthetic dreads give you the full look without touching your real hair. That is the whole point."

Why synthetic

The case for not committing to your own hair

Growing real dreads takes months or years and is genuinely hard to reverse. Synthetic extensions give you the silhouette and the expression in a single afternoon install. When you're done with the color or the style, you take them out the same way they went in.

That's not cutting corners. It's a completely different product made for people who want to change their hair the way they change their wardrobe. Plenty of Velveteen Dreads customers have worn four or five different sets in the same year.

The care guide has a plain-language rundown of how installation works, what daily wear is actually like, and how long a set typically holds up.
